September Volunteer Trail Training Day

FLT is hosting public volunteer trail trainings every month from April through October. Volunteers will meet with FLT staff to learn how to do everything from building bridges and cutting back branches to removing invasive species. No experience necessary!

This month we will be making improvements to the entrance of Morrill-Stillings Bird Sanctuary (18 Babbidge Road, Falmouth) to help decrease invasive plants in the area and set additional boundary markers. We will be restoring the natural habitat of the area by pulling out the invasive species and ensuring enough space is given to the native flora for them to thrive.

We will meet in the parking lot of the trailhead at 9:30am and go over tools and processes before starting the project as a group. This event will involve standing, digging, and kneeling on uneven terrain. Volunteers are encouraged to wear solid footwear and long pants, and bring water, insect repellant, and additional anti-tick measures.

If you have any questions, please reach out to our Environmental Steward Sarah Payne at flt_seasonal@falmouthlandtrust.org. Click the link below to sign up, or call 207-200-5488 for more information.

Restorative Foraging Workshop with Wild Seed Project (2 days)

Join FLT and Wild Seed Project for a restorative foraging workshop with Aaron Witham, USM's Director of Sustainability. This two-part foraging class invites you to develop friendships with the wild plants and mushrooms that you eat and don’t eat. Geared toward beginners, but open to all, this class will cover safety, identification, the ethics of reciprocity, respectful harvest guidelines and restorative actions. The stars of the show will be 50-75 edible or medicinal plants that will showcase their talents in return for love and respect. Don’t be surprised if there are occasional cameos from mushrooms. They always want to be a part of things. A tasty, foraged snack will be offered for each class.

Two classes ($35 total) will take place Wednesday, May 31st from 6:30-9 at the Mason-Motz building and Sunday, June 4th from 1-3:30 at the Falmouth Elementary School's greenhouse. Click here for registration information.
