Property Use guidelines

General RuleS

  • Properties are open dawn to dusk

  • Please stay on marked trails

  • Carry out what you bring in. This includes dog waste & organic waste (e.g. banana peels and apple cores)

  • Camping and fires are prohibited

  • Group & commercial use by permission only

  • Respect wildlife & fellow visitors

  • No prospecting or commercial foraging

  • Target shooting is prohibited

Pets and Animals

  • Pets and animals are not allowed at Morrill-Stillings Bird Sanctuary, Hurricane Valley Farm, and River Point Conservation Area to help protect sensitive wildlife habitat

  • Pets and animals must be leashed at all times at Falmouth Nature Preserve/Mill Creek Preserve due to restrictions from The Nature Conservancy

  • Pets and animals must be on leash within 300 feet of the trailhead/parking lot. Pets and animals are then allowed off leash under voice control at all properties not mentioned above

  • Pets and animals must be on leash at certain times of year at particular properties to protect wildlife habitat. Please check individual property pages for specific regulations

  • Please pick up and carry out all pet waste

Bikes

  • Bikes are not allowed at Morrill-Stillings Bird Sanctuary and Gilsland Farm

  • Bikes are allowed at all properties not mentioned above

  • Please stay on marked trails

  • Please be aware of other trail users

  • E-bikes: Class 1 only

Foraging

Non-commercial foraging for personal and cultural use is allowed on Falmouth Land Trust-owned properties by permission only.  Click here for more information on FLT’s foraging policy, including how to request permission.

Geocaching

There are a number of existing geocaches on FLT properties. Please adhere to property rules and geocaching guidelines when searching for caches to help protect plant and wildlife habitat and respect other trail users.  Please contact FLT at 207-200-5488 or info@falmouthlandtrust.org if you are interested in placing a cache on one of our conserved lands.

Hunting

Hunting is allowed on many FLT properties and Town of Falmouth open space properties. Please see the list below. All trail users should wear blaze orange during hunting season.   • Hardy Road Conservation Area

  • Ridgewood Preserve (Falmouth Corners)

  • River Point Conservation Area

  • Suckfish Brook Conservation Area

  • Woods Road Community Forest
