Falmouth Land Trust stewards 2,800 acres of forests, meadows, farms, and wetlands and over 50 miles of trails on behalf of the community. Falmouth's trails are beloved by hikers and bikers, connecting families from greater Portland and beyond to nature – right at the doorstep of Maine’s largest city.

The challenge? Our trails are struggling. Mostly built by volunteers decades ago, they weren’t designed for the heavy use and extreme weather of today.

We’re working to make a climate-resilient and more accessible trail system a reality. Our goal is to raise $250,000 to support major projects such as trail hardening, better drainage, improved accessibility and a few permanent trail closures for habitat restoration. Together we can leave the legacy of a resilient and welcoming trail system to support healthy communities.

January 2026 update: We are more than halfway to our fundraising goal, and we’re so grateful to the growing list of supporters below. These funds have already been put to good use in the form of multiple new bridges at Ledges Preserve, Blackstrap Hill Preserve and Community Forest, Tidewater Farm Preserve, McCrann Preserve, and Falmouth Nature Preserve. A paid Maine Conservation Corps trail crew also spent over a month raising the trail tread to improve drainage in muddy areas at Underwood Springs Forest Preserve before improving trails near the Blackstrap Hill summit. We have more exciting trail improvement projects in the works for 2026!

How You Can Help: Trail Legacy Sponsorship

We invite your business, family, or neighborhood group to support our community’s trail system with a Trail Legacy Sponsorship. Your donation supports FLT and will be used for stewardship across all our trails. Sponsors are recognized with exclusive display of your business or organization name/logo at one property’s trailhead(s) for five years, with additional promotion on our website, newsletters and social media. We will also offer opportunities for volunteer trail work, customized for your team. Please contact us at info@falmouthlandtrust.org to learn more about becoming a trail legacy sponsor.
